Universities have begun to understand the significance of developing an inclusive atmosphere that accommodates various needs as more autistic individuals pursue higher education. Autistic students may have additional challenges relating to sensory sensitivity, executive functioning, and social relationships throughout the move to university, which may be difficult for anyone. However, for those on the autism spectrum who have the proper supports in place, going to college may be a life-changing and empowering experience that enables them to pursue their academic interests, gain useful skills, and cultivate deep relationships with other students. Universities can establish an environment where autistic students can succeed academically, socially, and personally by developing understanding, acceptance, and accessibility.
